Too Many Cars?

One of my neighbours is probably the most environmentally friendly talkers I have ever met. To the point that when another neighbour was having a small tree removed from his gargen, this chap went up to him and offered to negotiate for the tree! This is absolutely true! What makes the story even more interesting is that this environmental guy drives a very large 4x4! Work that one out.

Cars are a way of life. But unfortunately pollution is an unavoidable knock on effect. Driving cars burns fuel and burning fuel produces gasses and soot which harms the environment. Reducing the number of cars on the road would mean a reduction in the pollution, but nobody seems to want to give up that luxury - after all, we are unlikely to see the direct effects of it, although our children probably will!

How can Congress or Government in the UK help the situation?

Raising the tax on fuel has been a very unpopular measure in Britain. That rise in tax has indeed made an impact on the situation as people can simply not afford to drive as much as they would like to. But again this raises another question. Should we not be helped to make out own decision as opposed to being forced to make a decision by raising prices (of which the money goes to the government antway!)

It is an ugly situation. People who don't want to help themselves and their children at the same tim as everyone knowing that something needs to be done.
